.KEY MESSAGES...
Updated at 1105 PM CDT Tue Apr 8 2025
- Mild and dry conditions are expected throughout the week.
&&
.NEAR TERM...
(Rest of today and tonight)
Issued at 112 PM CDT Tue Apr 8 2025
A benign weather pattern continues through the near-term period
thanks to a large-scale trough over the eastern Hudson Bay and a
large-scale ridge over the subtropical Pacific. There`s enough
westerly flow aloft for weak cyclogenesis in Nebraska, so we`ll
see breezy southerly winds. Other than that, clear skies will
remain tonight. The presence of modest moisture and mechanical
mixing will keep lows in the low 50s.

.SHORT TERM...
(Wednesday through Thursday night)
Issued at 112 PM CDT Tue Apr 8 2025
The previously-mentioned low pressure will wander east-southeastward
early tomorrow morning as it dies. A weak front will shift into the
northern and western portions of our area. With almost no
appreciable temperature gradient across the entire Great Plains, the
only sensible impact of this front will be a brief wind shift behind
it. Otherwise, sunny skies will continue tomorrow with temperatures
warming up 5-10 degrees from where they were today.
The pattern will become more amplified as a trough digs in just east
of our area on Thursday. The accompanying northerly winds at the
surface will keep us from being quite as hot as we are on Wednesday,
but highs will still hang out near 80 degrees across our area.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday through Monday)
Issued at 249 AM CDT Tue Apr 8 2025
Thursday`s shortwave will amplify across the eastern US Friday
into the weekend, sending the cold front well southward into the
Gulf and all the way into the Caribbean. This will effectively
cut off moisture return into our area through the weekend which
will keep precipitation chances near zero. Highs temperatures will
warm further this weekend as upper ridging builds in, with 80s
and even some 90s expected by Sunday. Depending on the position of
a dryline and the degree of green-up we see this week, there
could be some elevated fire danger Sunday across northwestern
Oklahoma where rainfall was not quite as heavy this past week.
Overall though expect fairly pleasant conditions during the long
term period.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1105 PM CDT Tue Apr 8 2025
All terminals should remain under VFR conditions through the
forecast period. Surface winds will remain southerly around 10-15
kts tonight. Surface winds will veer more south-southwesterly by
16Z increasing to 15 kts gusting to 25 kts. A weak cold front
will push through shifting winds out of the north around 15Z into
northwest Oklahoma affecting terminal KWWR and KCSM and eventually
all our remaining terminals between 22-03Z. Not much wind behind
this front as windspeeds will only be between 5-10 kts.
